Allergy Test | Manage Childrens Food Intolerances | Blog

Cooking for children – particularly younger children who are still discovering their taste buds – can be a hard feat. Cooking for children with intolerances adds an extra complication that may need some extra time considering.

Knowing that your child is reacting badly to a certain food can be scary, but it’s a lot less scary when you know how to deal with it. At Allergy Test, we like to tackle the problem head-on and prevent reactions from happening again, as opposed to treating them.

Understanding the Intolerance

It’s important to fully understand what your child is intolerant to – an intolerance test with Allergy Test uses a small sample of your child’s hair to test against food and non-food items. We will then send your results which will show some clarification on the foods they’re having a reaction to. Once you know these, it will then be easier to eliminate or reduce them from your child’s diet.

*Please note, our tests are carried out on children aged 5 or over. This is because younger children are still building up their intolerances, so a test would produce unreliable results.

Be Aware of Symptoms & Reactions

Sometimes, a child may accidentally expose themselves to a food they’re intolerant to, whether it’s through hidden ingredients in things like candy bars, or through enjoying dinner at their friends’ house. In these cases it’s important to know the symptoms so you can reduce them as soon as possible. In the case of an allergy, these could cause severe problems which will need treating immediately. Intolerance symptoms can include bloating, nausea or diarrhea and can appear up to two days after exposure.

Finding Alternatives

The good news, is that there are a lot of alternatives available to purchase in supermarkets – alternatives to dairy, wheat, gluten and more. These include things like almond or soy milk instead of cows milk, or using oil as a binding product instead of egg.
