What causes bloating? | Allergy Test

The terms allergies and intolerances are often used interchangeably, but there is actually a huge difference. It is very easy to confuse the two, but one has life-threatening consequences and there is often misinterpretation. Intolerances are more likely to cause bloating, whereas allergies are more likely to cause skin rashes.

Allergies and intolerances are not the same. Allergies could cause someone to be sensitive or intolerant to a food, but an allergy could have far more damaging consequences. Many people get embarrassed by bloating, but allergies are much more serious.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

There are a couple of fundamental differences between allergies and intolerances. Whilst both cause uncomfortable symptoms, an allergy can be life-threatening if not managed or treated correctly.

Intolerance symptoms are just as irritating and uncomfortable like bloating, and sometimes even debilitating, but they are unlikely to ever be life-threatening.

Can you cure food intolerances and symptoms like bloating?

Food intolerances and sensitivities can also change over time, and these can often be overcome through the implementation of a food elimination diet. If you are really struggling with fatigue and bloating, you definitely need to find the troublesome item.  Avoiding and eating the right foods can actually end up healing the gut. Food allergy does tend to be lifelong and there is not a cure.

In both senses, there is psychological management and physiological management which you follow when analysing your results. The physiological process takes place in your body if you are suffering from an allergy is also separate from what happens during a food intolerance.

If you are experiencing an allergic reaction, it will involve the immune system and other cells, known as antibodies. This does not happen in the case of a food intolerance. Hair testing is not able to test antibody levels, and therefore it cannot be used to test for food or non-food allergies.

What about if I have a known allergy?

If you have a known allergy, and that particular item is highlighted as a moderate or high reactivity item, then you also have a food sensitivity to this item. Due to your food allergy, you are likely to have already removed this food from your diet, and so no further action is needed.
